DLSA B’pora organizes Legal awareness Prog on POSH Act 2013

Bandipora: In a significant initiative to promote legal awareness, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora, in coordination with Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Sumbal and in collaboration with JK Educational Society and Social Welfare Trust Sumbal, organized a Legal awareness programme on the ‘Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment at the Workplace (POSH) Act 2013.’
The programme, held at JK Educational Society and Social Welfare Trust Sumbal, was conducted under the supervision of Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, Chairman DLSA Bandipora, and the guidance of Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary DLSA Bandipora and Rahila Rashid, Munsiff/JMIC (Chairman TLSC) Sumbal.
The programme aimed to educate participants about their rights and responsibilities under the POSH Act, promoting a safe and respectful work environment.
Afroza Bano, Chairperson of JK Educational Society and Social Welfare Trust Sumbal addressed the participants and spoke extensively on the POSH Act, highlighting the role and responsibilities of employers in creating a safe and respectful educational environment. She emphasized the importance of employers’ role in implementing the POSH Act in educational institutions.
Sheikh Aijaz (Panel Lawyer), TLSC Sumbal, imparted awareness on understanding the POSH Act 2013. He said the POSH Act is landmark legislation in India aimed at preventing and addressing sexual harassment at the workplace. He added that the Act defines sexual harassment as any unwelcome act or behavior, such as verbal, non-verbal, or physical, that affects a woman’s dignity or creates a hostile work environment.
He elaborated the provisions and implications of the POSH Act and said the sexual harassment of women at workplace is a form of gender based violence. He made participants aware about sexual harassment at the workplace, role and responsibilities of Local Complaint committees & internal Complaint Committees.
He added that it is essential for all stakeholders to understand their roles and responsibilities in preventing and addressing sexual harassment.
The event saw participation from the officials and students of JK Educational Society and Social Welfare Trust Sumbal, staff members of TLSC Sumbal and PLVs of TLSC Sumbal.
