Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Pulwama and also recovered contraband substance from their possession, stating therein further that two drug consumers have been also arrested in Awantipora.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Pulwama a police party from Police Station Rajpora during naka checking at Achgoza intercepted an Alto vehicle bearing registration no JK05H/0877 with two persons on board identified as Zahoor Ahmad Dar S/o Abdul Gani Dar . Police in its statement further said that co-passenger identified as Rayees Ahmad Gooru S/o Bashir Ahmad Gooru, both residents of Gath Takun, Awantipora were also arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody , adding therein that during search of the vehicle, approximately 5.7 Kgs of Poppy Straw and cash amount of ?14,200/- was recovered.
Police in its statement further said that similarly in another operation a police party from Police Station Rajpora, while on patrol duty at Putrigam, intercepted an Alto vehicle bearing registration no JK13A-8461, driven by Amir Ahmed Wani S/o Abdul Samad Wani R/o Dadora, Pulwama and later upon search, 10.65 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that in Awantipora, during patrolling at Dangerpora, Padgampora Crossing, a Police Party of Police Station Awantipora headed by SHO Police Station Awantipora DySP(P) Atif Zahoor arrested 2 drug consumers in a suspicious circumstances and identified them as Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat S/o Ab Gani Bhat R/o Awantipora and Rehan Fayaz Mir S/o Fayaz Ahmad Mir R/o Iqbal Colony Awantipora, Police in its statement further said that during questioning, the said accused admitted their involvement in regular drug consuming activities. Police in its statement furthermore said that the said accused were shifted to drug de addiction/ rehabilitation centre Tral where the test of both the persons was conducted and the report revealed positive.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement police reiterated its commitment to remain resolute in its mission to eliminate drug menace from society, appealing therein people to support law enforcement efforts by sharing timely and credible information regarding drug-related activities.
