Drug peddler arrested in G’bal, another arrested in Awantipora: Police

Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested a drug peddler and seized a significant quantity of contraband substance from his possession, Stating therein further that a drug consumer was also arrested in South Kashmir’s Awantipora.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on credible inputs received from reliable sources about one Fayaz Ahmad Chichi S/o Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Chichi R/o Chichipati Hariganiwan having concealed contraband substances in his cowshed constituted a a special police team from Police Station Gund. Stating that the said police team along with Executive Magistrate 1st Class, conducted a raid at the said location and during search recovered and seized 9.8Kgs of contraband substance (Bhang Patri powder) concealed in a nylon bag, Police in its statement further said that the said accused was arrested on the spot and further investigation is underway, Stating therein furthermore that a case vide FIR No. 18/2025 under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Gund.
Police in its statement said that in a similar action in Awantipora Police arrested a drug consumer in a suspicious condition and identified him as Mehraj-Ud-Din Ganie S/o Gh Mohd Ganie R/o Lethpora. Stating that during questioning the said accused confessed the crime of being a regular drug consumer Police in its statement further said that the said drug consumer was later shifted to drug de addiction/rehabilitation Centre Tral where he was tested and the report showed him positive. Police in its statement further said that a case under FIR No. 110/2025 under relevant section of law was registered at Police Station Awantipora besides initiating further investigation.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police reiterated its commitment to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and appealed pepple to come forward with any information related to drug abuse or peddling in their areas.
