Srinagar: As part of emergency response, Srinagar Police, in coordination with the Tourist Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), carried out a mock drill in Dal Lake on Tuesday.
The drill focused on responding to situations such as boat capsizing and drowning incidents. “The teams, fully equipped with rescue gear, demonstrated real-time rescue and relief procedures. The exercise aimed to test preparedness and coordination among agencies, ensuring swift action during water emergencies,” the officials said.
Meanwhile, SDRF officials said that Tuesday this week they received an order to conduct a mock drill regarding boat capsize scenarios. “As per the instructions, we demonstrated the use of rescue equipment and procedures. This is part of our continued efforts to remain ready for any situation,” an official said.
Locals appreciated the initiative. “Such drills are necessary, especially with the number of tourists increasing. It gives us confidence that help will be available if something goes wrong,” said a Shikara owner.
Moreover, officials present during the exercise included SSP Enforcement, SP Zone East Srinagar, SP Headquarters Srinagar, DySP Headquarters Srinagar and DySP SDRF, who closely monitored the preparedness activities.
Additionally, the mock drill was conducted ahead of a larger civil defence exercise scheduled for May 7, following a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which instructed States and Union Territories to conduct preparedness drills
