Srinagar: President Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (J&K PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen here on Saturday impressed upon the Jammu and Kashmir Government to immediately withdraw its controversial order on marriage assistance that makes only 8th Class pass out females eligible for assistance under the said scheme.
In a statement issued here on Saturday Hakeem while calling the order a highly objectionable directive said marriage is equally a basic human right for both literate and illiterate females and as such educational qualifications has to do nothing with the marriage assistance .Calling the order a backtrack of the commitment on marriage assistance and an attempt to create vertical and horizontal divides in the society Hakeem called for immediate roll back of the controversial order that has reduced the marriage assistance only to 8th class female pass outs. Calling the order tantamount to a basic human right violation Hakeem expressed the hope that Government would immediately withdraw this controversial and discriminatory order without making it a point of any prolonged debate or discussion.
