New Delhi|May,1: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, will give a fitting and precise response to every act of terrorism. This was the Union Home Minister’s first public remarks on the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Sending a strong warning to terrorists, Amit Shah said, “If anyone thinks that a cowardly attack is their victory, they must remember this is Narendra Modi’s India — and revenge will be taken, one by one.” He reiterated the government’s commitment to uproot terrorism from every corner of the country. “It is our resolve to uproot terrorism from every inch of this country and it will be accomplished,” he said. The Home Minister also spoke of international support to India’s fight against terrorism. “Not only 140 crore Indians but the whole world is standing with India in this fight. All the countries of the world have come together and are standing with the people of India in this fight against terrorism.” Amit Shah said, “I want to reiterate the resolve that until terrorism is eradicated, our fight will continue and those who have committed it (terror acts) will certainly be given appropriate punishment.” The Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 25 tourists and 1 local, was one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in recent times. The gunmen had planned the attack at a scenic meadow which required hiking or using a pony service to get to the spot.
The Union Home Minister had rushed to Srinagar immediately following the terror attack on tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on April 22. He met the grieving families on April 23 and offered his condolences. He laid wreaths on the victims’ bodies and vowed that the “culprits of this dastardly terror attack will not be spared”. India’s ties with Pakistan nosedived following the Pahalgam terror attack, with New Delhi announcing a slew of measures including putting the Indus Waters Treaty on hold and cancelling the visas of Pakistani nationals.
