The revamped seven-member board includes several high-ranking military, Naval, Air Force officials, besides top Indian Police Service officials as its members. This decision was taken at a high-level meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan and security situation in the country. The reconstitution of the board is to strengthen security system as the board plays a critical role in providing long-term strategic analysis and policy recommendation to the government on national security and foreign affairs matters. The new members of the board are Air Marshal PM Sinha, Lt General AK Singh, Rear Admiral Monty Khanna, and two former Indian Police Service officers — Rajiv Ranjan Verma and Manmohan Singh.
