Poonch : The National Panchayati Raj Day was celebrated Thursday at Block Surankote, marking a significant occasion in promoting grassroots governance and community engagement. The event was organized by the District Administration in collaboration with the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj.
The program was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal, accompanied by SDM Surankote, Assistant Commissioner Panchayats, BDO and other key officials. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the local community, with a notable presence of women, reflecting a strong commitment to inclusive governance.
Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal stated, “Thursday’s celebration underscores our commitment to empowering local governance and ensuring that every citizen is aware of their rights and the resources available to them. Together, we can build a healthier and more prosperous community.”
The celebration commenced with a pledge ceremony focused on “Nasha Mukt Bharat.” Participants, including district officers, officials, staff, and residents, collectively committed to making India drug-free. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the severe consequences of drug abuse and promote a healthier community.
During the event, attendees were educated about various government schemes related to the Rural Development Department (RDD). Special emphasis was placed on the importance of Panchayati Raj institutions in effectively implementing these schemes at the grassroots level, ensuring that benefits reach the most vulnerable populations.
Moreover, the program highlighted the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) initiative under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Participants were informed about the critical role of WASH in sustainable development, focusing on access to safe drinking water, proper sanitation facilities, and good hygiene practices. Community members were reminded that access to WASH is fundamental for preventing waterborne diseases, promoting public health, and enhancing the overall quality of life.
Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal also recognized and encouraged the best-performing staff of the RDD department.
The event concluded with an open forum, allowing community members to voice their concerns, suggestions, and feedback on local governance issues, further enhancing the participatory spirit of the day.
