Srinagar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP), Anurag Thakur on Tuesday said the restoration of statehood is the government’s promise, which will be fulfilled.
He further said the simultaneous polls in the country under ‘One Nation, One Election’ will lead to the growth of the country’s GDP by 1.5 per cent.
“Statehood is our promise and it will be restored to Jammu and Kashmir,” Thakur said while addressing the reporters here.
Asserting that there is no place for militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, Thakur, said the fight against Naxalism and militancy is going on across the country. “Many naxalists have surrendered while there has been a relief in J&K as the security forces have taken stringent measures against militancy,” he said, adding that the BJP has a zero-tolerance policy against militancy.
On ‘One Nation, One Election’, Thakur said it is in the interest of the country. “While the JPC formed in this regard has been discussing the issue, I believe that the simultaneous elections will save money, increase the voting percentage and also save time for employees, who are being deputed on election duties,” he said, adding that if the bill is passed, India’s GDP can see an economic growth of 1.5 percent.
The BJP MP further said there was no pressure on the Supreme Court (SC) on the Waqf Amendment Act, saying the court has already validated the government’s decisions on Triple Talaq, Article 370 and other issues.
He accused the Congress and opposition leaders of misleading the people on the issues. “In J&K, development has taken place, we are witnessing a tourism boom here. Similarly, Triple Talaq has brought relief to the Muslim women,” he added
