DLSA B’pora organises Legal Awareness Prog at GDC Sumbal

Bandipora: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora in coordination with Tehsil Legal Services Committee Sumbal and in collaboration with Govt. Degree College Sumbal on Thursday organized legal awareness programme on Domestic Violence, Property Rights and Work Place Discrimination at Govt. Degree College Sumbal, here.
The programme was held under the Chairmanship of Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, Chairman DLSA (Principal District and Sessions Judge) Bandipora and guidance of Iqbal Ahmad Akhoon (Secretary DLSA) Chief Judicial Magistrate Bandipora.
The programme was inaugurated by Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, Chairman DLSA (Pr. District and Sessions Judge) Bandipora who was accompanied by Dr.Shabeena Iqbal Shawl, Principal Govt. Degree College Sumbal, Molvi Muzaffar Hussain, Chief Administrative Officer, District Court Bandipora, Assistant Professors and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, Chairman DLSA (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Bandipora, who was chief guest on the occasion said that Women’s discrimination remains a pervasive issue globally, affecting women in every aspect of life—whether in the workplace, at home, or in society.
He said, from unequal pay to limited opportunities, women continue to face barriers simply because of their gender. This inequality not only harms women but weakens entire communities and economies.
Chairman DLSA said that it is time for change, we must challenge these outdated norms, promote gender equality, and empower women to take their rightful place in all areas of life.
He said, Awareness, education, and active participation are key in creating a world where every woman can thrive without discrimination or bias.
Earlier, Principal GDC Sumbal Dr. Shabeena Iqbal Shawl presented the welcome address.
Dr. Nuzhat Gul, Assistant Professor, emphasized the importance of legal awareness on these crucial societal issues.
During the programme, Advocate Irshad Ahmad Dar, Panel Lawyer TLSC Sumbal, addressed the gathering on the subject of Domestic Violence. He described it as a widespread issue that affects people across all backgrounds and emphasized the need for awareness, support systems, and community education to help break the cycle of abuse and foster an environment where violence is not tolerated.
He said domestic violence encompasses physical, emotional, and psychological abuse, leaving lasting scars on victims and many suffer in silence due to fear, shame, or financial dependence, but no one should endure abuse in any form.
Advocate Aabid Hussain Malla, Panel Lawyer TLSC Sumbal, spoke about Property Rights, highlighting their essential role in individual freedom, economic empowerment, and creating a just society where everyone can thrive irrespective of gender or social status.
Among others, the programme was attended by Professors, Assistant Professors, students of Govt. Degree College Sumbal and PLVs of TLSC Sumbal.
