DDC Udhampur hands over keys of e-rickshaws to progressive fishermen under PMMSY

Udhampur: District Development Commissioner Saloni Rai on Thursday handed over keys and ice boxes of three-wheeler e-rickshaws to progressive fishermen of the district under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.
While interacting with the beneficiaries, the District Development Commissioner congratulated them and highlighted the Government’s continued efforts to support the fisheries sector. She informed that the Department of Fisheries, besides generating employment through the construction of carp ponds, trout Raceways and Backyard Mini-RAS units, is also extending financial and logistical assistance to fish farmers and fishermen by providing them with three-wheeler e-rickshaws.
She added that this initiative aims to strengthen the marketing and transportation infrastructure for fish and fish products. The provision of e-rickshaws will enable the fishermen to transport their produce more efficiently to nearby markets, while the ice boxes will ensure the freshness and quality of the fish is maintained during transit, the DC added.
The beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to the government and the District Administration for this support, which will significantly enhance their income-generating capacities and improve livelihoods.
