SSP Ang Felicitates Officers for Securing First Historic Conviction Under New Criminal Laws

Srinagar: In a landmark achievement, Police in Anantnag on Wednesday secured the first-ever conviction under the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), marking a historic moment in the implementation of India’s revised criminal justice system. The case pertains to FIR No. 69/2025 registered at Police Station Anantnag under Sections 303(2) and 238 of BNS, based on a written complaint lodged by Ab. Rasheed Alie S/o Ghulam Rasool R/o Hawora Munshi Pora. The complainant had reported the theft of his load carrier auto (Regd. No. JK18B-3925) from Mehandi Kadal, Anantnag, on April 1, 2025.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday Police said that while acting swiftly, Anantnag Police launched an effective investigation, which led to the arrest of the two accused identified as Faizan Ahmad Bhat S/o Nazir Ahmad Bhat and Muneeb Saleem Wani S/o Mohd Saleem Wani, both residents of both residents of Bangidar, Anantnag , adding therein that upon sustained interrogation the accused confessed to the crime, and the stolen vehicle was recovered at their instance.
Stating that the charge sheet was submitted before the Court of Special Mobile Magistrate, Anantnag, Police in its statement further said that after due legal proceedings the Court convicted both the accused, sentencing them to three months of judicial imprisonment along with a fine of ₹3,000 each, Stating therein further that in case of default in payment, an additional 15 days of imprisonment shall be imposed.
Police in its statement further said that in recognition of this significant achievement, SSP Anantnag Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, felicitated Head Constable Shabir Ahmad (Investigating Officer) and SHO Police Station Anantnag Abdul Rashid Khan for their diligent, professional and time-bound investigation that led to the first conviction under the New Criminal Laws. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police said that the successful outcome reflects the efficiency, legal preparedness, and commitment of Police in delivering swift justice under the newly established legal regime.
