UTRC convenes 2nd quarterly meeting to discuss cases of Under Trial Prisoners in Srinagar

Srinagar: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, under the aegis of the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, convened its 2nd quarterly Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) meeting on Tuesday at District Court, Srinagar.
The meeting was attended by Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar; Mir Imtiyaz-ul-Aziz, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Srinagar; Umer Shah, SP Headquarter Srinagar; Dysp Central Jail Srinagar, Sr. Public Prosecutor, District Court Srinagar; Senior Medical Officer, Central Jail Srinagar; Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel and Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel, Srinagar.
The meeting was chaired by Tasleem Arief, Principal District & Sessions Judge (Chairman, DLSA) Srinagar, and brought together key stakeholders from the judiciary, police, administration, and medical fraternity to address the significant issue of ensuring fair and expedited trials for under trial prisoners.
This collaborative forum underscores the importance of a collective approach in safeguarding the rights of individuals awaiting trial.
During the meeting, the committee meticulously reviewed 09 cases involving under trial prisoners. Each case was examined thoroughly through detailed discussions and deliberations, with the objective of understanding the specific circumstances of the individuals concerned. The committee subsequently formulated the recommendations aimed at expediting the judicial process, thereby upholding the principles of equity and justice.
Tasleem Arief, emphasizing the significance of UTRC meetings, highlighted their critical role in strengthening the criminal justice system and safeguarding the fundamental rights of under trial prisoners. He reiterated the necessity of regular initiatives such as these to ensure a fair and efficient legal process, reflecting the commitment to justice and transparency.
DLSA Srinagar remains unwavering in its commitment to upholding the rights of under trial prisoners by ensuring that they receive fair and speedy trials.
