DC Srinagar reviews implementation of AMRUT 2.0 Water Supply projects

Says “Scheme will make Srinagar City self-sufficient to address water demand”

Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat Tuesday chaired a meeting at DC Office Complex, here to review the implementation of AMRUT 2.0 water supply projects in the district.
DC held detailed discussions on the progress of various approved schemes under AMRUT 2.0, highlighting key developments and challenges. He also took a detailed project wise and component wise review of all the schemes.
At the outset, DC highlighted the significance of AMRUT 2.0. He said that the scheme is aimed to prioritize ensuring water security for urban areas by promoting water conservation, reuse of treated wastewater, and rejuvenation of water bodies.
Dr Bilal stressed the Officers to redouble the efforts to ensure timely completion of all projects so that people are benefited from the scheme.
On the occasion, Executive Engineer Water Works Division Srinagar through a detailed powerpoint presentation highlighted the progress of different projects under the scheme.
The chair was informed that a total number of 20 projects have been approved for Srinagar City, out of which 18 projects have been tendered and allotted.
He was also informed that a total of 14 Over Head Tanks are under execution for improving the service levels. Besides, two Water Treatment Plants of 4.1 MGD capacity are also being taken up.
It was given out that one Activated Carbon Chamber of 7 MGD Capacity under AMRUT 2.0 is in progress that shall address the issues of odour and color issues in the raw water.
During the meeting, DC also reviewed the project for laying ‘Raw Water Conductor from Preng to Rangil’ which shall augment the water supply of Srinagar City by 25 MGD.
The DC was further informed that with the execution of AMRUT 2.0 Programme, Srinagar City shall be self-sufficient to address water demand up to year 2040.
Besides, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mir Imtiyaz Ul Aziz; Chief Planning Officer, Fayaz Ahmad Dar and Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Umar Gulzar, the meeting was attended by Executive Engineers of Water Works Division, Water Supply Master Plan Division, FA/CAO Srinagar Municipal Corporation and other concerned Officers.
