Srinagar: The Police on Tuesday said that the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Awantipora, awarded punishment of Community Service to two individuals for misconduct in a public place while in a drunken state.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said the individuals were identified as Gowher Hilal Bhat S/o Mohd Akram Bhat R/o Khrew and Mukhtar Singh S/o Karnail Singh R/o Amritsar, Punjab A/P Panthachowk, Srinagar.
Police in its statement further said that the incident occurred on 8th April during routine patrolling by the Police Party of Police Post Toll Plaza as both the accused were found intoxicated, misbehaving with passersby’s and creating a public nuisance.
Stating that after completing all legal formalities, the accused were produced before the Court for the commission of an offence punishable under Section 355 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement police said that it has introduced the community service as a form of punishment under the new criminal laws, emphasizing reformative justice.
