Director reviews progress of official language implementation at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar: Officials at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Wednesday reviewed the progress of official language implementation in the fourth and last quarterly meeting of financial year 2024-2025.
The meeting of the Official Language Implementation Committee (OLIC) was held at Committee Room and was presided over by Incharge Director NIT Srinagar Prof Roohi Naaz, Institute’s Registrar Prof Atikur Rehman.
It was convened to review the progress of Rajbhasha (official language) implementation across various departments and administrative sections of the Institute during the financial year 2024-25.The meeting was also attended by incharge Hindi Officer Dr. R.P. Shukla (Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering), Heads of Departments, Centres and sections.
On the occasion, Director NIT Srinagar Prof. Roohi Naaz appreciated the commendable efforts made by the Rajbhasha Cell and active participation of departments in promoting the use of Hindi in official work.
She emphasized that the main signboards on campus will soon be made trilingual—Urdu, Hindi, and English on a priority basis to promote inclusivity and accessibility. Prof. Naaz said that the Institute’s commitment to effectively implementing the directives of the Department of Official Languages, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). She also discussed that there is a need for permanent posts in Rajbhasha Cell and for that communication is already under process with the department of Higher Education. Speaking on the occasion, Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman stated that all directions issued by the Official Language Implementation Committee are being followed in letter and spirit on the campus.
“Important circulars and official orders are regularly issued in bilingual format to ensure compliance with Rajbhasha guidelines. NIT Srinagar has made significant progress in this direction, and we are confident of achieving even greater milestones in the future,” he said.
Hindi Officer, Dr RP Shukla informed the chair that so far 28 ministerial staff of the institute have successfully completed Prabodh Course under the Hindi teaching scheme and now have been registered in Praveen Course.
“Besides these 3 employees including an Officer have qualified the last Parangat Course under the Ministry guidelines),” he said.
During the session, it was discussed that training sessions will be organized for more employees of the Institute in line with the Official Language Policy of the MHA.
These sessions will provide basic knowledge of Hindi to enhance reading and writing capabilities for effective usage in official correspondence. The training initiative will be supervised by Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Dar, Hindi Teaching Supervisor, Rajbhasha Cell.
A formal vote of thanks was presented by Hindi Translator Dr Sabzar Gani, who expressed his gratitude to the Director, Registrar, and all members of the OLIC for their continuous support and cooperation in strengthening the role of Rajbhasha Cell on campus.
