Jammu : Police in Jammu on Monday said that in a significant breakthrough against narco-criminal networks, Jammu Police apprehended a notorious criminal with narcotics and an illegal weapon during routine patrol in the Pounichak area.
In a statement issued from the District Police Office Jammu, officials said the suspect was intercepted while traveling from Ring Road towards Bhagatpur via the service lane, adding therein that upon noticing police presence, he attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by ICBPP Sandwan team led by ASI Raj Singh.
Stating that the accused was identified as Bhuvan Prasad Kewat, S/O Padun Lal Kewat, R/OChampa, Chhattisgarh and a thorough search led to the recovery of approximately 2 kilograms of ganja and a pistol from the bag of the accused Police in its statement further said that a case was registered at Police Station Domana under the NDPS Act and Arms Act, adding therein that Further investigation is underway to trace the origin of the contraband and firearm and to uncover the larger network involved. Police in its statement also said that more arrests are expected as the probe progresses.
