Jammu : Police in Jammu on Saturday said that as part of a sustained crackdown on illegal mining, Jammu District Police have seized 189 vehicles and collected Rs 30,46,403 in fines during the first quarter of 2025 (January 1 to March 31).
In a statement issued from the District Police Office Jammu, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Joginder Singh said that special drives were conducted across the district to check illegal mining and protect natural resources. “As a result of these operations, 189 vehicles involved in illegal mining were seized,” SSP Singh said, adding that several vehicles were released after completing due legal formalities. “A fine of over Rs 30.46 lakh was realized from violators during this period,” he added.
He further said that an FIR has also been registered against repeat offenders involved in habitual illegal mining activities, and the process to cancel the registration of these vehicles has been initiated. “The Jammu Police are committed to curbing the activities of the mining mafia and ensuring strict enforcement to safeguard environmental and public assets,” the SSP said.
