Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has apprehended two extortionists posing as law enforcement officers to extort money from the general public here in Awantipora.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police team of Police Station Tral apprehended two suspects namely Mohd Altaf Ganai S/o Mohd Ramzan Ganai R/o Nageenpora Tral against them who as per police statement are fraudulently posing as law enforcement officers to extort money from the people. Police in its statement further said that on this complaint a case under FIR No.31 of 2025 was registered under relevant sections of law at Police Station Tral besides initiating further investigation.
Stating that during the investigation, both the accused identified as Bashir Ahmad Sheikh S/o Mohd Jamal Sheikh R/o Saimooh and Mohd Shafi Dar S/o Gh Nabi Dar R/o Dadsora were targeting gullible citizens, Police in its statement further said that the said accused were arrested and taken into custody for further investigation.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity to the nearest station or by dialling 112.
