One-Day Workshop on “Swacchata” for NSS Volunteers organized at JU

Jammu: Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Regional Directorate NSS, New Delhi in collaboration with the Office of the Programme Coordinator, National Service Scheme (NSS) and NSS Campus Units organized a successful one-day workshop on the theme of Swacchata for NSS volunteers at University of Jammu. The workshop brought together more than 100 volunteers from various institutions with the aim of promoting the importance of cleanliness and sanitation in communities.
The event was inaugurated by Prof Suman Jamwal, Dean Social Sciences who was the Chief Guest of the Occasion. Prof Suman Jamwal appreciated the volunteers for their mass participation and congratulated the Office for organizing the event. She focused on the need to address the Swacchata issues at the local level and highlighted the need for community participation for looking out the solutions. Prof. Vishav Raksha, Convenor, NSS campus Units and Special Guest of the occasion. emphasized the critical role of youth in driving social change, particularly in the context of cleanliness and hygiene. “Swacchata is not just about keeping our surroundings clean, but it is also about nurturing a sense of responsibility and commitment to the well-being of society,” said Prof.Vishav Raksha . Prof Vishav Raksha emphasized the role of the volunteers in carrying forward the message of Swacchata & sanitation.
Dr. Hema Gandotra, Programme Coordinator NSS, University of Jammu formally welcomed the Guests and the participants. She thanked the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai under whose supervision the entire event was initiated and executed. She further said the office of the Programme Coordinator NSS is also highly grateful to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Regional Directorate Office, NSS, New Delhi for choosing her institute for organizing the said event on such an important theme. She motivated the volunteers to participate in such workshops so that they get sensitized and gain knowledge which can further be useful in community service. She highlighted that Swacchata is not a onetime effort but a continuous practice that involves each one of us. It is one’s responsibility to keep the surrounding clean and also inspire others to do the same. She said that through the collective efforts we can help make India a cleaner and greener place for all.
The workshop featured various sessions and interactive activities designed to educate volunteers on the principles of cleanliness, waste management, and sustainable practices. Experts from Sociology, Environmental Science & Arboriculture Department led discussions on topics such as waste segregation, recycling, and the importance of maintaining personal and environmental hygiene. The workshop included four technical sessions besides Inaugural Session. The first technical session was conducted by Prof. Vishav Rashka, Convenor Campus Units, the second session was conducted by Prof Deeepika Slathia Founder Member GREEN
CAMPUS TASK FORCE University of Jammu. In the third technical session the students actively participated in Slogan writing competition and fourth technical session marked the plantation drive by the volunteers and Prof Piyush Malaviya, Convenor Arboriculture and Landscaping was the special guest during the drive. Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, NSS PO the law school conducted the entire Programme. Dr. Shallu Sehgal, NSS PO, Mr. Ajmer Singh from the Arboriculture department , Ms Shevali Raina, Ms. Bhanu Priya, Ms. Vineet Kour, Ms. Tanvi Gupta, Mr. Lokesh Dogra , Shiv Pal Research Scholars from the Department of Sociology among others were present on the occasion.
