Jammu: Chairman District Development Council Bharat Bhushan on Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the progress of desilting works on minor canals and kuhls across the district.
DDC Vice Chairman Suraj Singh was also present in the meeting held at the district headquarters.
Expressing concern over the sluggish pace of the works, the DDC Chairman directed the departments concerned to expedite the process and ensure its completion within a week. He emphasised the need for coordinated efforts on the ground and instructed teams from the Rural Development Department and the Irrigation & Flood Control Department to conduct joint inspections. The Chairman stressed that on-site visits would help identify and resolve any issues hindering the progress of desilting and cleaning operations.
The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh; Assistant Commissioner Development Dr Vikas Sharma and AD Planning Satish Sharma. Block Development Officers and Executive Engineers from Irrigation Division I, II and Akhnoor, as well as representatives from the Ravi Tawi Irrigation Complex and Rural Engineering Wing, joined the meeting virtually.
Farmers from different parts of the district, including Gajan Singh, Tilak Raj, Shamsher Singh and Devinder Singh, also participated online, sharing their concerns and providing feedback on the ongoing works.
