Commandos, sniffer dogs join searches, SFs tighten cordon

Jammu : Anti-militancy operation at Sanyal village near the International Border in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district entered its second day on Monday.
The operation launched by a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army’s Rising Star Corps, and other security forces, was initiated on March 23 (Sunday) following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat arrived at the encounter site on Monday evening to personally supervise the operation. He was accompanied by Inspector General of Police (Jammu) Bhim Sen Tuti.
The security forces have cordoned off a dense nursery area where 3 to 5 heavily armed militants are believed to be hiding.
The deployment of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), officials said, has resulted in the recovery of arms and ammunition in Hiranagar. “The search parties have found a few M4 carbine magazines, sleeping bags, tracksuits, several packets of eatables, and separate polythene bags,” said an official.
Earlier on Sunday the operation saw an exchange of gunfire till evening, which subsided after 7 pm, with no further firing reported overnight.
“Efforts to neutralize the militants continue, with reinforcements, including commandos, drones, and sniffer dogs, deployed to intensify the searches,” said an official.
Meanwhile, a 7-year-old girl, Anchal Kumari, daughter of Nago, sustained minor injuries during the initial exchange of fire between the militants and the security forces yesterday.
Kumari, originally a resident of Bihar is currently living near Radha Swami Ashram in Hiranagar.
The victim is undergoing treatment and her condition is stated to be stable
