Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan: Distt Admin Udhampur organizes awareness program on harms of substance abuse

Udhampur : A day long awareness programme on Substance abuse, causes, symptoms and treatments under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was organized under the guidance Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Saloni Rai and overall supervision of Kanika Gupta District Social Welfare Officer by Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with Police Department and District Sports Office at Government ITI College Udhampur.
The initiative aimed at educating students and faculty about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of seeking help for recovery.
SI Kulvinder from police department aware participants on drug abuse and focused on the legal implications for drug abuser and elaborated Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act 1985( NDPS) wherein it is illegal for a person to produce/manufacture/cultivate, possess, sell, purchase, transport, store and/or consume any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance. She narrated various case studies where a drug user and his family members were left in shambles.
Later, Som Dev Khajuria Physical Education Master Sports office took a pledge of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan along with all the participants.
During the event, various activities were performed by the students viz. Volley ball match, painting competition and Debate competition.
The need to undertake such activities arise from the need to channelize the positive energy of youth into meaningful direction.
Department of Social welfare felicitated winner and runner up and also distributed certificates and hand bags to the participants under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
The event received positive feedback from the attendees, with many expressing their appreciation for the informative session. At last District Mission Coordinator, Sankalp Hub Mission Shakti, Jyoti Pathania discussed various ways forward for substance users and was also aware about the facilities being provided by the government for drug de addiction. She also offered the vote of thanks to all the participants. Superintendent, staff and students of Govt ITI college, officers of police Department, staff of sports office, participants nearing approximately 120 participated in the program.
