SrinagarLieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha this week called upon civil society members, trade and industry stakeholders to unite in pursuing two ambitious goals – transforming India into a $5 trillion economy by 2026 and achieving a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Speaking at the Viksit Bharat Samvad ‘EDGE 2025’ event held in Kanpur, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the need for collective efforts and speedy reforms to make every sector of the economy globally competitive. Highlighting the global economic upheaval, trade uncertainties, and geopolitical challenges, LG Sinha stressed the importance of transforming India into a global hub for design and manufacturing.  “Our focus should be on leveraging technological advancements and creating an environment where innovation thrives. By skilling, reskilling, and upskilling our youth, we can ensure they capitalize on global opportunities,” he said.

Harnessing The Demographic Dividend: “While the world is ageing, young India is rising,” the Lieutenant Governor observed. He attributed India’s steady economic growth to the power of IIT – Innovation, Industries, and Technology.  “This combination will help us achieve our target of a $5 trillion economy by 2026. We must also focus on producing critical goods to reduce dependence on external markets and build a strong domestic supply chain.” The Lieutenant Governor stressed the importance of a long-term strategy for foreign investment and strengthening domestic supply chains to establish India as a manufacturing colossus by 2029.

Partnership Between Panchayats And Industry: Underscoring the importance of inclusive development, LG Sinha advocated for a new partnership between Panchayats and industry across the country. “This partnership is essential to accelerate inclusive development, ensuring that all sections of society enjoy the fruits of economic growth. Our villages must match modern cities in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities,” he said. He urged business leaders to focus on creating rural enterprises connected to the global market. “We need to empower our rural areas by fostering economic opportunities that resonate with the global market. This will not only uplift rural economies but also strengthen the nation as a whole,” he added.

India’s Development Journey Under PM Modi: The Lieutenant Governor commended India’s remarkable development journey under the leadership of PM Modi. He lauded the revolutionary changes taking place across sectors, particularly in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.  He cited Kanpur, once known as the “Manchester of the East” for its leather and textile industries, as an example of revival. “Kanpur is witnessing a complete resurgence with major industries in textiles, leather, and defense manufacturing setting up units. Exports from Kanpur have increased significantly, powering the journey towards Viksit Bharat,” he noted. LG Sinha appreciated the collaborative initiative by the Rotary Club of Kanpur Gaurav, Confederation of Indian Industries, and Prout Solicitors LLP for providing a meaningful platform for impactful discussions and strategic collaborations aimed at India’s all-round progress.

Empowering Divyangjan At Purple Fest 2025: On the same day, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also attended the Purple Fest 2025 at Raj Bhawan, an event aimed at fostering awareness, inclusion, and empowerment for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities). In his address, the LG applauded the resilience and talents of Divyangjan, reaffirming his commitment to building a more accessible and inclusive Jammu and Kashmir. “We have worked tirelessly to empower Divyangjan, taking significant initiatives over the last few years to ensure their dignity, rights, and well-being. I am fully committed to integrating them into every aspect of social, economic, and cultural life,” LG Sinha said. He highlighted key Government initiatives designed to create a supportive environment for Divyangjan, enabling them to unlock their full potential and lead dignified lives.  “Equal opportunities for Divyangjan are essential. Under the leadership of PM Modi, reforms have ensured that every public and private establishment follows an equal opportunity policy, systematically addressing the challenges faced by Divyangjan,” he added.

Recognizing Extraordinary Achievements: The Lieutenant Governor praised the extraordinary achievements of Para-Archers Ms. Sheetal Devi and Mr. Rakesh Kumar, noting that their journeys of determination and resilience have inspired many. “Their incredible determination and unshakable willpower have set an example for all. They demonstrate that with hard work and perseverance, extraordinary success is achievable,” he said.

Education, Skilling for Empowerment: The Lieutenant Governor also underscored the importance of education and skill development for Divyangjan. “Education is a powerful medium for providing employment and advancement opportunities. Skilling is equally crucial for empowering Divyangjan and helping them achieve their goals. A multifaceted approach to skilling and collaborative efforts will ensure they realize their full potential,” he asserted. He urged civil society organizations and stakeholders to support the completion of education for Divyangjan in an inclusive environment. “Empowerment begins with education. It opens doors to employment and a life of dignity,” he added.

Call For Dedicated Efforts: The LG called on officials from the Social Welfare Department and other stakeholders to make dedicated efforts for identifying beneficiaries and ensuring 100% saturation of Unique ID Cards for Divyangjan. He informed that the J&K Government has requested the Government of India to organize two mega camps for Divyangjan, one each in Jammu and Kashmir divisions.

Cultural Performances,Community Participation: The Purple Fest 2025 also featured cultural performances and martial arts demonstrations by children from the Composite Regional Centre Jammu, Directorate of Social Welfare, and various organizations. Handmade flower pots, bouquets, and Mata ki Chunni of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi were presented to the Lieutenant Governor as tokens of appreciation.
