Jammu: Below is timeline of the weeklong key public events and engagements of top public functionaries witnessed within and outside Jammu & Kashmir this week:-

  1. Govt Assures Rehabilitation For Fire Victims in Anantnag: Jammu and Kashmir Government is actively working for the rehabilitation of victims affected by a major fire that gutted 40 residential houses in Anantnag district. Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo informed the Legislative Assembly on Saturday that some relief has been provided, with more on the way.
  2. BJP MLA’s Walkout Over Waste Disposal Issue: BJP MLA Sham Lal Sharma staged a walkout from the J&K Assembly, accusing the Government of a non-serious attitude towards scientific waste disposal in his Jammu North constituency. He demanded the relocation of the Kot Bhalwal waste dumping site.
  3. Opposition Leader Hails Centre for Ending Militancy: Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma praised the central Government for its efforts in ending terrorism in J&K. He credited the improved situation to post-Article 370 measures and stringent action against terrorism.
  4. Congress To Intensify Statehood Demand From March 24: Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra announced that the party would intensify its demand for statehood starting March 24. He clarified that it would be a peaceful march lasting 10 to 15 days.
  5. BRO Works Tirelessly To Clear Zojila Pass: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is working relentlessly to restore the strategic Srinagar-Leh highway through Zojila Pass despite extreme weather conditions. Officials are optimistic about reopening the crucial route soon.
  6. Police Register FIR Against Attempts To Incite Sectarianism: Anantnag Police has registered an FIR against individuals trying to give a sectarian angle to a recent murder in Kokernag. Authorities emphasized zero tolerance towards attempts to incite communal disharmony.
  7. Centre Approves Three New Medical Colleges for J&K, Ladakh: The Union Government has approved the establishment of three new medical colleges under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS). Udhampur and Handwara in J&K and Leh in Ladakh are set to benefit from the initiative.
  8. J&K DGP Warns Stern Action Against Narco-Terrorism J&K: Police Chief Nalin Prabhat reiterated the Government’s tough stance against narco-terrorism. He assured the public of strict legal action against those involved and dismissed concerns over increased infiltration due to melting snow.
  9. Crime Branch Books Security Agency Owner For Fraud: J&K Police’s Crime Branch booked Ram Sharma, proprietor of a private security agency, for using a forged PSARA certificate to secure Government tenders. Legal action has been initiated against the accused.
  10. Amit Shah Slams Opposition Over Language Row: Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused opposition parties of politicizing the language issue to divert attention from their corruption. He emphasized unity in diversity and promised to communicate in local languages post-December.
