Srinagar : In order to raise awareness about water conservation, legal rights related to water, and the collective responsibility of communities in safeguarding this vital resource, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar Saturday observed ‘World Water Day’ at Bilaliya Education Institute, Lalbazar, Srinagar.
The program was held under the guidance of Shazia Tabasum, Member Secretary of the J&K Legal Services Authority, and the overall supervision of Tasleem Arief, Principal District & Sessions Judge and Chairman of DLSA Srinagar, along with Sajad Ur Rehman, Secretary DLSA Srinagar.
GN Qasba, former Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) was the chief guest on the occasion. He shared his valuable insights on community development and governance.
Drawing from his extensive experience, he discussed the challenges faced in urban planning, water management, and sustainable development. He stressed the need for collective responsibility in addressing environmental and civic issues and encouraged the youth to actively participate in initiatives that promote public welfare.
His address served as a call to action for all stakeholders to work together in tackling pressing societal concerns.
Tasneem Kausar, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, spoke about the crucial role of legal aid in protecting environmental rights. She emphasized that access to clean water is a fundamental right and that legal services play a vital role in ensuring justice for underprivileged individuals. By providing free legal assistance, the DLSA ensures that marginalized communities can demand accountability and fair treatment.
She further underscored the importance of enforcing water protection laws and encouraging legal literacy to empower citizens in environmental conservation efforts.
Students from Bilaliya Education Institute delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the role of education, youth engagement, and community participation in water conservation. The students highlighted how small yet consistent efforts by individuals can lead to significant environmental impact. The speech resonated with the audience, reinforcing the idea that the younger generation holds the power to bring about meaningful change in society.
The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony, where the chief guest, resource persons and other dignitaries were honored for their contributions.
Principal of Bilaliya Education Institute, Nisar Ahmed reiterated the importance of legal awareness and community involvement in fostering sustainable solutions for water conservation and environmental protection.
The event was attended by staff members and students of Bilaliya Educational Institute Srinagar.
The observance of Water Day at Bilaliya Education Institute served as a significant platform for legal education, environmental awareness, and community engagement. By bringing together legal experts, educators, and students, the event reinforced the message that access to clean water is not just a necessity but a fundamental right that must be protected through legal and social initiatives.
