J&K Forest Deptt Observes Int’l Day of Forests at JVC Bemina Campus Bemina

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department, in collaboration with Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Bemina, Friday organized a plantation programme at JVC campus, Bemina, Srinagar to commemorate the International Day of Forests.
The International Day of Forests is observed annually on March 21st to raise awareness about the importance of forests and their vital role in sustaining life on Earth. This year’s theme, ‘Forests and Food,’ highlights the intricate relationship between forests and the food we eat.
The plantation programme featured the planting of various species of plants, emphasizing the Forest Department’s commitment to promoting sustainable forest management and environmental conservation. The event was attended by officials from the Forest Department, SKIMS Bemina, NGOs and local community members.
Irfan Rasool Wani, Chief Conservator of Forests, Kashmir emphasized the essential role of forests in medical science and their contribution to providing a healthy atmosphere. “Forests not only support biodiversity but also play a crucial role in public health by improving air quality and preventing transmission of diseases,” Wani said.
Dr Faz lul Qadir Parray, Principal of SKIMS Medical College and Hospitals, also spoke at the event, highlighting the importance of maintaining green cover inside the Medical institutes as it enhances patient recovery and well being by reducing stress, anxiety and depression.
Among others the event was attended by Tawheed Ahmad Deva, Conservator of Forests, Srinagar Circle and Regional Wildlife Warden, Kashmir, Mehraj Din Malik, Joint Director Forest Protection Force, Kashmir, DFO Urban Forestry Division, Srinagar Dr. Shiekh Mehraj, DFO Planning and Publicity Division, Danish Khan, DFO Agrostology, Kashmir, Syed Himayun Qadri and other senior officers of SKIMS and Forest Department.
