BGSBU Celebrates Nowruz Festival with Grandeur

Rajouri: The MA Persian Program at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, celebrated the Nowruz Festival with great enthusiasm, marking the beginning of the New Persian Calendar. Recognized by UNESCO and widely observed across Central Asia, the festival showcased the cultural and literary richness associated with Nauroz.
The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by a student of MA Persian (2nd semester), followed by a soulful Naat by Dr. Asif Malik Nayeemi from the Department of Urdu.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. JawaidIqbal, extended his greetings on the occasion and commended the Persian Program for organizing the event. He stated, “Nowruz is not just a festival; it is a symbol of renewal, harmony, and cultural unity. Events like these play a vital role in preserving our rich literary and linguistic traditions. BGSBU remains committed to fostering such academic and cultural initiatives.”
Prof. M.J. Warsi, Dean of Academic Affairs, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasized the importance of extracurricular activities in academic and personal development. He also lauded the faculty’s efforts in promoting the Persian language and culture and assured full institutional support for its advancement. To symbolize the essence of Nowruz, Prof. Warsi lit a ceremonial candle.
Dr. ManzarAlam, Coordinator of the MA Persian Programme, welcomed esteemed guests from various university departments and highlighted the significance of the event.
The festival featured insightful speeches by eminent scholars, including JenabKhurshidBismil, JenabMohdIqbalNazish Sab, Dr. Shams Kamal Anjum Dr. Mohammad Affan, Dr. Mohammad Azam, and Dr. Ibrahim. Their perspectives enriched the audience’s understanding of Persian literature and its cultural significance.
Distinguished faculty members from various departments, including Dr. Danish IqbalRaina (Centre for Tourism and Hospitality)attended the festival, appreciating the cultural and academic contributions of the MA Persian Programme.
