Srinagar : In a major step in digital policing, making the complaint registration process more efficient and accessible for citizens, Police in Kulgam on Sunday registered its first electronic First Information Report (e-FIR) at PS Qazigund, following a complaint lodged via WhatsApp.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarter Srinagar Police said that a complaint was filed by one Bashir Ahmad Khanday, wherein he stated that on 12th March this year a miscreant after monitoring his transition activity within ATM at Chowgam quickly took out his ATM card and exchanged it tactfully. Stating that, the complainant had received messages of deduction of amount of Rs 22,000/- from his bank account. Police in its statement further said that complainant in his above referred complaint thereafter sought legal action against the said miscreant and recovery of his stolen money.
Police in its statement further said that after examining the complaint, the cognizance of the matter was taken and subsequently an e-FIR under case FIR No. 38/2025 was registered under section 303, 318 BNS at Police Station Qazigund, adding therein that the investigation of the case has been initiated.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police said that to strengthen public safety and justice, the Government has introduced new criminal laws which enable citizens to register First Information Reports (FIRs) through social media platforms as this innovative initiative aims to make the process of reporting crimes more accessible, efficient, and citizen-friendly. Police in its statement further said that with the rising popularity of social media, this move is expected to revolutionize the way people interact with law enforcement agencies.
