Srinagar: Police on Sunday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Srinagar and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar police said that a police party during patrolling from Bemina Chowk to Boatman Colony intercepted a vehicle which was moving suspiciously and recklessly from Bemina Chowk to Boatman colony . Stating that the travelers in the vehicles tried to flee but the vehicle was tactfully stopped, Police in its statement further said that the moment vehicle was stopped the driver immediately jumped out and fled from the spot. Police in its statement further said that however the other co-passenger remained inside and was apprehended on the spot. Stating that the co-passenger identified on the spot disclosed his identity as Sameer Ahmad Bhat S/o Ali Mohammad Bhat R/o Woyan Pampore, Police in its statement said that during questioning the said arrested accused disclosed the identity of the driver/the person whom the vehicle belongs as Mudasir Ahmad Pir S/o Shareef-U-Din Pir R/o Firdous Colony Bemina. Police in its statement further said that during search a substantial quantity of Brown Sugar like substance was recovered from the Dash board of vehicle besides which one weighing machine and a mobile phone was also seized on spot. Stating that the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized besides which a case under FIR No. 18/2025 was registered under relevant section of law at Police Station Bemina Police in its statement further said that search for the other accused who fled from the spot is underway.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to support its initiatives for rooting out the drug menace from the society , reiterating therein its commitment to take strict action against offenders in accordance with the law.
