Srinagar: Police on Sunday said that it has seized ten (10) vehicles engaged in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Police District (PD) Handwara.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on specific inputs, police teams led by SHO Police Station Handwara & I/C PP Langate along with Geology and Mining Department seized 10 vehicles (10 tractors), involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
Stating that the vehicles have been challaned under the relevant sections of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act (MMRD Act), Police in its statement further said that legal proceedings have been initiated against the vehicle owners and drivers.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to remain vigilant and report any such illegal activities by dialing 112, reiterating therein its commitment to take strict legal action against those violating mining regulations.
