Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir Women’s Development Corporation (JKWDC) marked International Women’s Day with a grand celebration at its Bemina, Srinagar headquarters. This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action for Gender Equality,” emphasized the importance of empowering women and recognizing their contributions to society.
A Mega Awareness Camp cum Loan Mela was organized to educate women about various schemes implemented by JKWDC. The event was sponsored by the National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation under the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India. More than 400 women, including beneficiaries, artisans, and representatives from NGOs and self-help groups, participated in the camp. During the event, officials highlighted JKWDC’s efforts in providing financial assistance to women entrepreneurs. The corporation has so far facilitated loans for 24,306 beneficiaries amounting to ₹335.25 crore under different schemes. Additionally, 44 exhibitions showcasing women’s entrepreneurial talent have been organized across different locations. The camp also featured a product exhibition where women beneficiaries displayed their handmade items, including Kashmiri shawls, suits, Sozni and Crewel embroidery, Pashmina products, readymade garments, artificial jewelry, and cushion covers. Speaking on the occasion, JKWDC representatives reaffirmed their commitment to creating opportunities for women and ensuring equal participation in all spheres of life. The event served as a reminder of the progress made and the steps still needed to achieve gender equality. With such initiatives, JKWDC continues to play a pivotal role in the economic empowerment of women in Jammu & Kashmir, reinforcing the message that “women are leaders of change and contributors to a brighter future.”
