● Paras Health Srinagar brings advanced liver transplant OPD to Srinagar, led by experts from Gurugram.
● Successful treatment of complex liver and gastro cases, including Kashmir’s first PARTO procedure.
● International patient benefits from advanced EUS and ERCP treatment at Paras Health Srinagar.
● Comprehensive gastro and liver care is now available closer to home with a specialized team.

Srinagar: Paras Health Srinagar has taken a significant step in enhancing specialized liver and gastro care with the launch of its dedicated Liver Transplant and Gastro Surgery OPD. In a move that brings medical expertise closer to home, renowned liver transplant specialist Dr. Amit Rastogi, Chairman, Institute of Liver Transplant & GI Surgery, Paras Health, Gurugram, will conduct a special OPD in Srinagar on February 13, 2025. This initiative ensures that patients requiring complex gastro and liver treatments no longer need to travel outside the state for expert consultations and advanced care.
The introduction of the OPD comes at a crucial time, as the region witnesses a rising number of patients suffering from chronic liver disease, gastrointestinal disorders, and liver failure requiring transplants. Paras Health Srinagar is committed to providing top-tier medical care through its highly experienced team of specialists, modern diagnostic facilities, and the latest therapeutic interventions.
Among the many advanced procedures successfully performed at Paras Health Srinagar, the recent case of Arshid Ahmad Lone highlights the hospital’s expertise in complex interventional gastroenterology. The 46-year-old patient, suffering from chronic liver disease, had recurrent gastrointestinal bleeding due to large fundal varices. After multiple sessions of esophageal variceal banding, the medical team conducted a complex Plug-Assisted Retrograde Transvenous Obliteration (PARTO) procedure—the first of its kind in the region. The procedure, performed by Dr. Irshad Ahmad Banday and his team, successfully eradicated the varices, stabilizing the patient and preventing life-threatening complications.
Another milestone case involved 45-year-old Shabir Ahmad Laway, who had been suffering from unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding for months. After undergoing inconclusive tests at various hospitals, he was referred to Paras Health Srinagar for advanced diagnostic evaluation. The team performed the first-ever Double Balloon Enteroscopy in the state, allowing them to examine 80% of the patient’s small intestine and identify diffuse angioectasias. This breakthrough procedure led to an accurate diagnosis and the initiation of targeted treatment, significantly improving the patient’s condition.
Paras Health Srinagar has also extended its services to international patients, with a recent case involving Kathy McNeill Gall, a 65-year-old woman diagnosed with cholangitic abscess and CBD stones. The hospital’s specialists performed a single-session Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), successfully clearing the obstruction and ensuring a quick recovery. The seamless execution of these advanced procedures highlights the hospital’s ability to handle complex international cases with precision and expertise.
Dr. Irshad Ahmad Banday, a leading expert in interventional radiology at Paras Health Srinagar, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to pioneering medical advancements. “The successful execution of the region’s first PARTO procedure and Double Balloon Enteroscopy marks a significant leap in our ability to manage complex liver and gastro conditions. These advancements are life-changing for patients who previously had to seek treatment outside the state. Our team is dedicated to providing world-class care right here in Srinagar,” he said.
Dr. Amit Rastogi, Chairman, Institute of Liver Transplant & GI Surgery, Paras Health, Gurugram, underscored the importance of accessible specialized care. “With liver disease and gastrointestinal disorders on the rise, timely diagnosis and intervention are crucial. Our aim is to bring the best transplant and gastro expertise to Srinagar, ensuring that patients receive top-quality treatment without the burden of long-distance travel. Through the Liver Transplant OPD, we are committed to delivering comprehensive care tailored to each patient’s needs,” he said.
With its expanded gastro and liver transplant services, Paras Health Srinagar continues to set new benchmarks in advanced medical care. The hospital offers a full spectrum of specialized procedures, including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endo bariatrics, advanced endoscopic interventions for GI malignancies, and cutting-edge treatments for gastrointestinal bleeding and chronic pancreatitis.
The launch of the dedicated Liver Transplant and Gastro Surgery OPD is a testament to Paras Health Srinagar’s mission to bring the highest standard of medical expertise to the region. With a team of leading specialists, state-of-the-art technology, and a commitment to innovation, the hospital remains at the forefront of advanced gastro and liver care in Jammu & Kashmir.
