DLSA Srinagar observes ‘Int’l Women’s Day’ at Srinagar Women’s College, Zakura

Srinagar: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, in collaboration with Srinagar Women’s College, Batapora, Zakura, observed International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm.
The observance-cum-awareness program was held under the guidance of Shazia Tabasum, Member Secretary J&K Legal Services Authority, and under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arif, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and under the supervision of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar, and Prof. Syed Ifat Ara, Principal of Srinagar Women’s College.
The event aimed to raise awareness about women’s rights and empowerment, emphasizing the importance of gender equality in society.
In her welcome address, Prof. Syed Ifat Ara highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day and the need to create a society where women are treated with dignity and respect. She applauded the joint efforts of DLSA Srinagar and the college in organizing the event, stressing the importance of legal awareness in empowering women to assert their rights.
The resource person for the event, Adv. Suhaila Ali, Panel Lawyer of DLSA Srinagar, delivered an insightful talk on the rights of women and the legal mechanisms available for their protection. She emphasized the role of legal awareness in ensuring that women can access justice and safeguard themselves against discrimination and violence.
The event also featured speeches by students Meehsa, Areeba, and Afshana, who shared their perspectives on women’s empowerment, equality, and the challenges faced by women in different spheres of life. Their articulate presentations reflected their awareness and commitment to the cause of women’s rights, making the session both engaging and thought-provoking.
During the International Women’s Day celebrations, a special felicitation ceremony was held to honor the contributions of resource persons and students who played a significant role in the event. As a token of appreciation, certificates were distributed to acknowledge their efforts and dedication.
The initiative aimed to recognize and encourage individuals who have contributed to promoting gender equality, empowerment, and awareness.
To add a spirit of joy and celebration, various outdoor fun games were organized as part of the International Women’s Day observance. The games infused the event with energy and camaraderie, reinforcing the message that empowerment also includes joy, confidence, and social engagement.
