4 drug peddlers arrested, contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested four drug peddles in Shopian, Kulgam & Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Shopian, a Police Party from Police Station Shopian at a checkpoint established at Nagesharan crossing intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration No. JK02C-8316 and during checking recovered contraband substance like Charas powder from the first-aid tool kit of the motorcycle, adding therein that the pillion riders disclosed their identities as Mohammad Lateef Malik S/o Mohammad Yousuf R/o Bongam, Shopian & Tauseef Mushtaq S/o Mushtaq Ahmad Wagey R/o New Colony, Largam. Police in its statement further said that in Kulgam also a Police team from Police Station Qaimoh at a checkpoint established at Khudwani Byepass, intercepted a suspect identified as Mohd Amin Bhat S/o Mohd Abdullah Bhat R/o Shamsipora, Bijbhara and after search recovered 2.5 kilograms of Cannabis Husk like substance filled in the bag from his possession. Stating that in a similar action in Budgam too a Police party of Police Station Beerwah at a checkpoint established a Rankipora, intercepted a suspect identified as Mohammad Saleem Shah S/o Mushtaq Ahmad Shah R/o Pati Sail Beerwah who on seeing the Police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, Police in its statement furthermore said that all the accused were arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, adding therein that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to support its efforts in rooting out the drug menace from society and warned strict action against offenders in accordance with the law.
