Kulgam : The Sahitya Academy in collaboration with District Administration Kulgam on Thursday organized a day-long symposium at conference hall of mini-secretariat here, to honor the eminent Kashmiri Poet, Khazir Malik Safaie of Pahloo Kulgam.
The event featured two sessions dedicated to exploring his contributions to Kashmiri language and Sufi Poetry.
Scholars and writers from various regions gathered to discuss Safaie’s extensive work in the field of linguistics, particularly his efforts in promoting Kashmiri language, tradition and Sufi poetry.
The symposium provided a platform for in-depth discussions on his writing, poetry and the lasting impact of his work on Kashmiri language and society.
On the occasion the audience read the couplets of Khazir Malik Safaie’s poetry from his collections including ‘Sikandar Naama’, ’Molivi Naama’, ‘Bagi Shoda’ and ‘Toti Naama’.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan who was the chief guest appreciated the efforts of Sahitya Akademi for organizing such programs to honor the local Kashmiri poets.
He added that translation of all the famous literature of the world should be available in Kashmiri language so that the audience and reach of Kashmiri language will rise to its new horizons.
In his keynote address, the Convener Kashmiri Advisory Board Sahitya Akademi Prof Shaad Ramzan gave a detailed account on the poetry of Khazir Malik Safaie.
It is worth mentioning that Safaie remained in oblivion for centuries until in 1980’s when the Cultural Academy did a detailed research on him supervised by Prof Shaad Ramzan.
The presidential address was given by Manshoor Banhali who appreciated the efforts of Shaad Ramzan to discover this eminent poet after a long time.
The vote of thanks was given by ADC, Viqar Ahmed Giri who expressed gratitude to the audience and Sahitya academy for organizing such a symposium on eminent Kashmiri local poet.
The programme was also attended by ACR, ACP, Tehsildar Kulgam, and civil society members, local poets, writers and some relatives/ residents of poet’s native village Pahloo.
