Srinagar: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Gurinderpal Singh on Thursday said the number of drug-related and suicide cases had declined this year compared to the previous year. He said the reduction was due to the stringent action taken by the police against drug dealers and suppliers.
Speaking at an inaugural function of a ski competition, SSP Singh urged people to come forward, assuring that the police were always ready to support those seeking help.
He said drug addicts should be seen as victims who need help, while the real criminals are the drug mafias who exploit them. “It’s not like the problem has no solution. J&K Police is there to help people out of it. Whatever issues you have, come to us. We are there for you,” he asserted.
SSP said their tough action against drug dealers and suppliers in the previous year curtailed the cases, adding that there is always scope for improvement and J&K Police is committed to eradicating this menace.
Highlighting the importance of identifying and nurturing talent, SSP encouraged youngsters to make use of available resources to shape their careers. “Every youngster has a responsibility to identify their talent. There are several online resources available to guide them on what to do with their specific skills. They should also find the right department and forum that will help them shine,” he added.
Singh said the government is actively working to support youth talent and development, with multiple programs launched by various departments. He said any gap in access to these opportunities is primarily due to a lack of awareness, not a lack of initiatives.
“Kids should be aware. The government leaves no stone unturned to hone the talent of youth. If there is a lack, then it’s an information gap, nothing else,” he added.
The event organised under the Civic Action Programme and sponsored by the Range Police Headquarters, North Circle DIG, witnessed the participation of around 51 school students and over 20 government officials from different departments. “It is aimed at bridging the gap between the youth and the police while engaging them in constructive activities,” SSP Singh added
