Srinagar : Srinagar Police on Wednesday said that it has apprehended a gang of robbers who were posing as Police Commandos to loot trucks during nighttime. The operation led to the recovery of dummy guns, a vehicle, black uniforms, and other incriminating materials used in the crime.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that on 22nd February Police Station Shalteng received a complaint from one Chanchal Singh S/o Sher Singh R/o Haryana, who alleged therein that during the night hours, unidentified individuals stopped his vehicle at Maloora, Shalteng, and robbed him of cash and valuables at gunpoint, adding therein that based on the complaint, an FIR under No: 15 U/S 307, 126(2), 3(5)) was registered following which an investigation was subsequently launched.
Police in its statement further said that while acting swiftly, Srinagar Police formed multiple teams and conducted an extensive search operation, adding therein that within days, four accused were identified and arrested from different areas of the city. Police in its statement identified the accused as Sahil Ahmad Sheikh S/o Mehraj-u-Din Sheikh R/o Narakh Budgam, Aqib Ahmad Sheikh S/o Mehraj-u-Din Sheikh R/o Narkarah Budgam, Arbaz Ahmad Wani S/o Hilal Ahmad Wani R/o SD Colony Batmaloo, Faisal Ahmad Shah S/o Azad Ahmad Shah R/o Nowhatta.
Stating that the investigation led to the seizure of two dummy guns nine mobile phones, a Swift vehicle, ATM cards, cash, and black commando uniforms used in the commission of crime Police in its statement further said that the accused specifically targeted trucks with registration numbers from outside Jammu & Kashmir, choosing desolate highway stretches during nighttime to execute their crimes, adding therein that the accused intimidated drivers using dummy guns while dressed in black commando uniforms before robbing them of cash, ATM cards, and other valuables. Police in its statement further said that the arrested individuals are history-sheeters with multiple cases registered against them in various police stations across Jammu & Kashmir.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reiterated its commitment to combat crime and ensuring public safety and appealed people to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to help safeguard society.
