Kathua : The annual Mahashivratri celebrations at the historic Airwan Shrine began on Tuesday on a grand note with a vibrant Kisan Mela organized by the District Administration Kathua. The event brought together farmers, artists, and devotees, creating a lively atmosphere of cultural and spiritual festivity.
The Kisan Mela opened with a special ceremony, setting the stage for two days of engaging activities. The fair showcased a wide range of locally grown farm produce, including fresh fruits, vegetables, and grains, highlighting the agricultural richness of the region. Farmers from surrounding villages participated enthusiastically and interacted with experts to learn about the latest farming techniques.
To further benefit the farming community, stalls were set up by the agriculture and allied departments, providing information on modern farming techniques, government schemes, and best agricultural practices. Farmers got the opportunity to interact with experts and gain insights into modern practices in crop production, animal husbandry and horticulture.
Adding to the cultural charm of the event, artists from the Information Department presented a mesmerizing show of Shiva Tandava and Shiv Vivaha. The rhythmic act captivated the audience, reinforcing the deep spiritual and artistic traditions associated with Mahashivratri.
MLA Kathua Dr. Bharat Bhushan, who inaugurated the event, lauded the District Administration and the Airwan Mandir Committee for putting in sincere efforts in organizing the Mela. He emphasized the importance of such events in strengthening community bonds, promoting rural entrepreneurship, and preserving cultural heritage.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rakesh Minhas highlighted that the Kisan Mela not only added to the festive spirit of Mahashivratri but also served as a platform to educate farmers on modern agricultural techniques and allied practices. He encouraged farmers to take advantage of the opportunity and learn about new farming methods and government schemes designed to support their growth.
Dr. Minhas also announced that as part of the Mahashivratri celebrations, a grand Ganga Aarti will be held at 6 PM on Mahashivratri day at Airwan Shrine. The event will feature the lighting of 1,100 Diyas (oil lamps), showcasing a breathtaking visual spectacle. He invited the public to participate in this sacred event and experience the divine atmosphere.
The Airwan Mandir Committee, led by Tehsildar Nagri Aana Jamwal, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, participants, and organizers for their support in making the event a success. The committee reaffirmed its commitment to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values while ensuring that Mahashivratri celebrations continue to be inclusive and spiritually enriching.
The Kisan Mela has set the stage for the main Mahashivratri celebrations, bringing together farmers, devotees, and cultural enthusiasts in a unique blend of spirituality and tradition. The event underscores the Airwan Mandir’s deep-rooted significance as a center of devotion and cultural heritage, drawing visitors from across the region.
On this occasion, the DC extended his warm greetings and best wishes to everyone, emphasizing that Mahashivratri is not just a religious festival but also a celebration of unity, spirituality, and India’s rich cultural heritage.
Earlier, Kabaddi, Volleyball and Athletic competitions were played which witnessed mammoth attendance.
DDC Nagri Sandeep Majotra, ADC and other officials were also present on the occasion. ‎
