2 drug peddlers arrested in Srinagar & Kulgam: Police

Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Srinagar and Kulgam and also recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police along with team of CKR office arrested a drug peddler identified as Ishtiaq Ahmed Khowaja S/o Abdul Hamid Khowaja R/o Dildar Karnah Kupwara who was subsequently arrested before which contraband substance was also recovered from his possession. Stating that a Police team headed by SHO Police Station Shalteng, during surprise naka established at Narbal Sozieth Bund intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number CH01M-9496, who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended by alert police party, Police in its statement further said that during checking, substantial quantity (910 grams) of heroin-like substance was recovered from the driver of said vehicle following which the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Police in its statement further said that in Kulgam during patrolling at general road Malwan in the jurisdiction of Police Station Devsar intercepted a suspect whilecarrying a bag and recovered 10 kgs of grinded Cannabis like contraband substance filled in the said bag, adding therein that the said drug peddler identified as Arsalan Azad Ganie S/o Azad Ahmad Ganie R/o Malwan was arrested on the spot.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations Police
in the concluding para of its above quoted statement warned that people found indulging in drug trafficking, and other criminal activities shall strictly be dealt with, appealing therein people to cooperate for eradicating the menace of drugs from the society.
