4 drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam, B’gam; Contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Kulgam and Budgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party from Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Upper Bazar Qazigund arrested a drug peddler identified as Mudasir Ahmad Itoo S/o law of Manzoor Ahmad Itoo R/o Kurigam and during search recovered 2 Kgs of Poppy Straw and 6 grams of Brown Sugar like substances from his possession.
Stating that in Budgam also a Police party of Police Post Soibugh at a checkpoint established at Nadigam-Wadwan Crossing, arrested a drug peddler identified as Bashir Ahmad Hajam S/o Noor Mohammad Hajam R/o Wadwan and during search recovered semi-grinded charas like substance weighing about 3.827 kilograms concealed in a nylon bag from his possession, Police in its statement further said that in another similar action, a Police party of Police Post Waterhail during Naka checking at Samsan Crossing intercepted two suspects identified as Mohammad Yousuf Beigh S/o Mohammad Ramzan Beigh R/o Gund Ali Naik and Ishfaq Ahmad Dar S/o Mohammad Abdullah Dar R/o Kathwara Budgam, adding therein that during search, 7 sticks of Charas like substance wrapped in a corn husk weighing about 135 grams and semi-grinded Charas like substance weighing 850 grams were recovered from the possession of the said accused.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations Police
in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
