Rajouri : Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) celebrated International Mother Language Day with great fervor, reaffirming its commitment to linguistic diversity and cultural heritage. The event organized by the Department of Urdu, School of Languages featured a series of programs highlighting the importance of preserving and promoting mother languages.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, in his address emphasized the significance of linguistic diversity in fostering inclusive societies. He underscored the role of mother languages in preserving cultural identity and encouraged students to embrace their linguistic roots with pride.Prof. Iqbal highlighted how languages serve as the foundation of communication, culture, and identity. He stressed the importance of preserving and promoting regional languages as a means of safeguarding cultural heritage for future generations. He further noted that in an era of globalization, linguistic diversity must be celebrated to foster unity, inclusivity, and mutual understanding among different communities. Additionally, he encouraged the University’s faculty and students to actively engage in linguistic research and initiatives that support multilingual education.
The event included paper presentations and poetry recitations representing various regional languages.
A Mushaira was also organized on the occasion, featuring poets from the University fraternity who captivated the audience with their literary expressions celebrating linguistic and cultural heritage. Those present on the occasion included Dr. A A Shah, Dean of Students; Dr. Shams Kamal Anjum, Head, Department of Arabic; Prof. Anjum Awam, Chair Professor, CGPKL, Dr. Liaqat Nayyar and Dr. Asif Malik, Assistant Professors, Department of Urdu.
