Srinagar : A free books and hijab distribution campaign at Zero Bridge in Rajbagh area on Saturday garnered widespread appreciation from locals and pediatricians alike.
The initiative aimed to spread awareness about religion and promote peace in society, while books included “Islamic and other books.” One of the organizers, present at the stall said the campaign was set up to educate people about social awareness, bring them closer to their religion and encourage harmony.
He said they have set up two stalls for males and females alike, and their aim is to make people aware of the importance of reconnecting with their religion and refraining from spreading nudity and vulgarity, either on social media or elsewhere.
A female representative at the stall said the importance of this campaign lies in guiding the younger generation. “We have kept religious books in multiple translations, including Hindi, English, and Arabic, so that people can understand Islam better,” she said, adding that the initiative also seeks to discourage vulgarity and inappropriate behavior in public spaces and on social media. “We have also kept other books for those who understand languages like English, Hindi, and others.”
Additionally, locals and pediatricians praised the campaign, calling it a step toward instilling moral values and raising awareness about religious teachings. “Such initiatives help shape a better society and guide the youth in the right direction,” a pediatrician said.
Muneer, a student who was walking on the bridge, reacted by saying, “This initiative is really inspiring, especially for young people like us. It not only helps us understand the teachings of Islam but also encourages us to stay connected with our faith in a meaningful way. The availability of books in different languages makes it accessible to everyone,” he said.
Tahoor, a local resident from Rajbagh, said, “It is refreshing to see such events being organized in the heart of Srinagar. In today’s fast-paced world, people often forget the essence of their faith. Initiatives like this serve as a reminder of our roots and promote a message of peace and understanding within the community,” he said
