Kishtwar : Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar, Rajesh Kumar Shavan on Saturday presides over the Block Diwas program at HS Balgran, with the aim of addressing local issues and ensuring effective governance at the grassroots level.
The event witnessed active participation from local residents, who engaged with the DC and other senior officials to raise concerns and discuss solutions for various developmental needs.
During the Block Diwas program, the issue of water scarcity was addressed by emphasizing the importance of proper rainwater harvesting and the construction of water conservation structures. These initiatives were carried out in collaboration with various departments, including the Rural Development Department (RDD), Soil Conservation, Agriculture, and the Jal Shakti Department. The focus was on building sustainable water conservation systems to ensure a reliable water supply, particularly in areas facing severe water shortages.
In addition to water conservation efforts, the program also raised awareness about key government schemes aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and rural development. Notably, information on schemes like the Himayat Development Program (HADP) and the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) was shared, providing locals with valuable opportunities to access financial support and training for small businesses and skill development.
The program also served as a platform to inform the public about the District Control Room and JK Samadhan, which are dedicated to addressing public grievances. This initiative aimed at ensuring that people were aware of the channels through which they could report issues and seek redressal for their concerns, thus strengthening government accountability and transparency at the grassroots level.
The DC Kishtwar also laid emphasis on the self Employment Schemes specifically aimed for the empowerment of the Women folk of society and urged women to come forward and play pre-emptive role in the socioeconomic upliftment.
Furthermore, a commitment was made to complete the remaining villages under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) 4.0 and to expedite the ongoing infrastructure projects. This commitment seeks to improve connectivity in remote areas, ensuring that every village has access to essential services and development opportunities.
The role of Pani Samitis (Water Committees) was also highlighted in the program. These committees play a crucial role in managing water storage structures and ensuring the proper maintenance of water tank facilities. By engaging local communities in water Conservation, the program stressed the importance of collective action in tackling water scarcity, empowering villagers to take ownership of water resources and maintain sustainable water systems for future generations.
Through this comprehensive approach, the Block Diwas program effectively addressed water scarcity, empowered the community with information on government schemes, and encouraged active participation in local development efforts.
During the program, the DC emphasized the government’s commitment to reaching out to remote areas and ensuring the welfare of the public.
He assured the locals that all concerns raised would be duly examined, and necessary actions would be taken to address them promptly.
