Attendance Of Son For MLA Father At Top Official Meet

“The nomination of Waleed Karra as constituency incharge is for all practical purposes a permission to him for participation in political activities of the Congress party but not for his participation at official meetings.”

Attendance of Waleed Kara the son of MLA Shalteng assembly constituency Tariq Hameed Karra to represent his father at a key review meeting on developmental activities in Srinagar district early this week is obviously breach of official protocol demanding and deserving an explanation from the Government particularly District Administration Srinagar and the Education Minister Sakina Itoo who chaired the meeting. Waleed’s explanation that being a constituency incharge of Central Shalteng assembly constituency duly nominated by his father the MLA of the constituency he had the right to participate in the official meeting is absolutely unacceptable as any action going against the accepted guidelines for conduct in an official meeting is breech of official protocol. Waleed Karra a fresh entrant in politics is perhaps unmindful of the practices and procedures to be adopted for participation in an official meeting. For his party Congress Waleed Kara’s nomination as constituency incharge for Central Shalteng assembly constituency is an orgnisational and political arrangement allowed by the top brass of his party but this organizational and political arrangement of Congress party can’t be allowed for attendance at an official meeting conducted by the Government. The nomination of Waleed Karra as constituency incharge is for all practical purposes a permission to him for participation in political activities of the Congress party but not for his participation at official meetings. Even as per people’s representation act the people of Central Shalteng constituency have mandated Tariq Hameed Karra to represent them within and outside the assembly but not his son Waleed Karra. Such an action by a political legend of high integrity like Tariq Hameed Karra a former Minister, a former Member Parliament and incumbent MLA and J&K Congress party Chief is highly objectionable and should not have been allowed by the people at helm responsible for the conduct of a top review meeting held under the presidency of Education Minister Sakina Itoo.

“Not only the officials but the Education Minister who presided over the meeting also owes an explanation for allowing Waleed Karra to participate in the meeting on behalf of his father the incumbent MLA Central Shalteng assembly constituency. Wisdom demands that Government seeks explanation for all the concerned to convey a strong message to political parties that such an unlawful action won’t be allowed to become a precedence in future”.

Reports saying that Tariq Hameed Kara had himself during his tour to Chenab Valley has talked to Deputy Commissioner Srinagar over phone and sought permission of his son at the meeting shows that even senior Karra himself has not respect and regard for the official protocol to be maintained in the conduct of official meeting chaired by senior ministers or top functionaries of the Government. Not only the officials but the Education Minister who presided over the meeting also owes an explanation for allowing Waleed Karra to participate in the meeting on behalf of his father the incumbent MLA Central Shalteng assembly constituency. Wisdom demands that Government seeks explanation for all the concerned to convey a strong message to political parties that such an unlawful action won’t be allowed to become a precedence in future
