Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has seized three vehicles engaged in the unlawful extraction and transportation of minerals in Handwara.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarter Srinagar Police said that while acting on credible information, a team from Police Station Kralgund, led by SHO Police Station Kralgund, intercepted three tractors involved in illegal mineral extraction, adding therein that the vehicles were seized and challaned under relevant sections of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act. Police in its statement further said that legal proceedings have been initiated against the owners and drivers of the vehicles.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police said that this operation, carried out in coordination with the Geology and Mining Department, is part of a sustained effort to dismantle illegal mining networks and safeguard the region’s natural resources. Police in its statement also appealed people to report any suspicious activities related to illegal mining by contacting the emergency helpline at 112.
