Anantnag : Food Safety Department Anantnag conducted an extensive market inspection across various locations in the district Anantnag to assess the adherence of Food Business Operators (FBOs), particularly roadside vendors, to the provisions of Schedule-IV of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006.
During the inspection, several violations of food safety standards were identified, particularly poor hygiene and sanitation practices. Vendors were found using improper waste disposal systems, utilizing printed paper as food wrapping material, and employing non-food-grade plastic materials for packaging. These practices pose a significant risk to consumer health and safety.
As a result of the findings, five petty FBOs have been recommended for compounding under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. In addition, the Food Safety Officers (FSOs) procured a total of 10 samples during the drive—four enforcement and six surveillance samples—for detailed laboratory analysis.
The department also made use of its Mobile Food Testing Van to conduct on-the-spot testing of various food ite The mobile unit also served as an educational tool, informing vendors and the public about the harmful effects of reusing cooking oil and the importance of maintaining food safety standards, particularly in relation to RUCO (Reused Cooking Oil).
The Food Safety team issued strong warnings to Food Business Operators, stressing the importance of adhering to good manufacturing and hygienic practices. Authorities have made it clear that those found in violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, will face strict legal action.
The Food Safety Department remains committed to ensuring public health and safety by monitoring food quality and educating local vendors about maintaining proper food safety standards.
