Jammu : Stating that statehood is the core issue of people across length and breadth of Jammu and Kashmir, te Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra on Thursday accused BJP of disrespecting the overall mandate of the people including a massive mandate secured by them in Jammu too, in the name of statehood.
Karra also criticised the autocratic and anti-democratic mindset of some officers in the administration, even after the coming into being of an elected government for over four months.
Addressing a press conference here at the PCC Headquarters along with other leaders, Karra hit out at the BJP for “disrespecting” the mandate of the people, especially the massive mandate secured by BJP in Jammu on the “false” promises of restoring statehood by maintaining a “criminal silence” now.
He said during the ongoing campaign of the Congress across several districts of Jammu province including Udhampur Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda Kishtwar, there was massive response of the people and statehood remains the core issue of all sections of the population
There is strong resentment among the people against the Central government over the denial of statehood as the people’s expectations from the state government are not getting fulfilled in it lacks the power to deliver.
The genuine issues of different sections like daily wagers, need based, casual, adhoc and other such temporary, consilidated, adhoc, contractuals NHM, Anganwadi, SPOs, data operators and such other sections are awaiting justice. The unemployed youth are getting overaged, he said.
He said it has been observed that some officers in the administration have not changed their mindset from an autocratic to a democratic set up and have not adopted pro-people and pro-democratic culture in an elected democracy system as witnessed in Kishtwar district.
The people have been threatened they would be lodged in jails under PSA for raising basic issues like power and water through a peaceful mode.
The Congress was denied permission to hold an outdoor workers meeting and such orders are unheard of in a democratic and elected government.
It is the mindset of some officers or there were under instructions from the top when they claim complete normalcy in J&K.
