Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Anantnag and Handwara and also recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police party from Police Station Aishmuqam under the supervision of SDPO Pahalgam at a checkpoint established at Brad Aishmuqam arrested two drug peddlers identified as Farooq Ahmad Lone S/o Gh Rasool Itoo R/o Paith Nambal A/P Yall and Zafar Ahmad Bhat S/o Mohd Afzal Bhat R/o Khayar and during search recovered 7.2 Kgs of Cannabis Husk and 256 grams of Cannabis Powder like substance from the possession of the said accused.
Police in its statement further said that in Handwara also, a police team led by IC Police Post Chogul intercepted a vehicle Swift Dzire bearing registration No. JK09D-5264 with two suspects identified as Faisal Ahmad S/o Ab. Jabar Lone R/o Bramri, Kupwara and Tahir Habib S/o Habibullah Dar R/o Jaggerpora, Kupwara on board and during search of the vehicle, recovered 8.30 grams of a heroin-like substance from the possession of the said accused who were arrested besides which the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective Police Stations besides initiating further investigations Police
in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs , reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
