8 vehicles seized for illegal extraction, transportation of minerals in Kulgm: Police

Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has seized eight vehicles involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Handwara.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police team from Police Post Langate, led by I/C Police Post, seized four tippers and three tractors, while a team from Police Post Chogul seized one tipper engaged in illegal mineral extraction, adding therein that the vehicles were challaned under relevant sections of the MMRD Act, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the owners and drivers.
Police in its statement further said that this operation, conducted in collaboration with the Geology and Mining Department, is part of a sustained effort to dismantle illegal mining networks and protect the region’s natural resources, reiterating therein their commitment to combat illegal mineral extraction, which threatens the environment and poses significant health risks to local communities.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to report any such illegal activities by dialling 112, adding therein that strict actions will be taken against anyone found involved in unlawful mining practices.
